Which part of your marketing actually brings in your best clients?
Your website, Google profile, ads, SEO, social media and videos are all doing something. The Growth Diagnostic finds out what, shows you where people slip away between first search and paying client, and gives you a clear plan for what to fix first.
The Growth Diagnostic: a diagnostic evaluation of your entire customer journey, by Shane Johnston, Bolder Future.
Diagnose before you prescribe.
No good doctor prescribes before examining the patient.
Yet most businesses change agencies, raise ad budgets and add software without ever finding out where growth is actually breaking down.
The usual approach
- Run more ads
- Drive more traffic
- Add another tool
- Hope it improves
The diagnostic approach
- Evaluate the whole journey
- Find the real constraint
- Prioritize what matters most
- Prescribe the fix, then measure it
People can be lost at every step. Most businesses only measure the first one.
Each stage hands people to the next. A gap anywhere costs you, however much you spend at the top. Tap a stage to see what gets evaluated.
What's evaluated
Can you see where every client came from, and which sources produce the clients who stay?
The questions most businesses can't answer yet.
Sometimes the answer is more marketing. Often it isn't.
- Which of your marketing channels brings your best clients, and which brings people who never come back?
- What happens when someone calls at 6:30 pm, or over lunch?
- How long does a website inquiry wait before someone follows up?
- Is your SEO bringing in searches that become clients, or just traffic?
- Are your videos, social posts and Google profile pulling people toward you, or quietly sending them elsewhere?
- Are you attracting the clients your business actually wants?
Diagnose. Prioritize. Prescribe.
Diagnose
We start with a kickoff call about your goals, your numbers and how clients reach you today. Then we evaluate the whole journey: your accounts, your online presence, and how calls and inquiries are actually handled.
Prioritize
Not every gap matters equally. Each one is ranked by what it's likely costing you and how hard it is to fix.
Prescribe
You receive a clear plan, in order, showing what to fix first and why.
Getting started: after you begin, you'll receive a short onboarding form and a link to book your kickoff call. Account access is handled step by step, and we send the access requests from our side, so there's nothing technical for you to troubleshoot.
Clarity you can act on, and keep.
- A kickoff callTo understand your numbers, your goals and how the business runs today.
- A full-journey reviewYour Google ads, Facebook ads, SEO, website, Google Business Profile, social media and video, and how calls and inquiries are handled.
- A mystery-shop testA test call and inquiry, made the way a new client would experience them.
- A written diagnostic reportShowing where people are dropping off and what it's likely costing you.
- A prioritized planIn order, written so anyone can carry it out, including the companies you work with now.
- A findings callWhere we go through it all together.
Why not just ask your current agency?
You can, and they may have useful answers. But every specialist sees through the lens of what they do.
sees SEO opportunities.
sees ad opportunities.
sees software opportunities.
The diagnostic looks at the whole system first, then tells you which part matters most. Sometimes that confirms your current team is doing exactly the right work. Either way, you'll know.

Shane has spent 40 years in business. From 1986 to 2003 he worked in corporate consulting, including years with GE Capital and EDS, alongside A.T. Kearney's management consulting teams. He advised organizations, from investment banks to trading operations, on how to use technology to grow, and made the systems underneath work together.
Since 2003 he has built and run his own businesses, with more than 15 years focused on marketing and growth. Along the way he has helped launch more than 60 products and campaigns, managed millions of dollars in advertising, and contributed to initiatives that generated tens of millions in revenue.
Today, through Bolder Future, he works with established businesses as their strategic growth advisor: the person who looks at the whole system and decides what's worth doing. He doesn't sell a single channel, so he has no reason to find a problem in any particular one.

This is right for you if
- You're already investing in marketing, and you can't see what each part is producing
- People come in, but too many don't become clients, or don't stay
- You're considering changing agencies, budgets or tools, and want to get it right
It's not the right fit if
- You haven't started marketing yet
- You're mainly looking for someone to run ads for less
Before you begin.
Do I have to change agencies?
No. The diagnostic doesn't assume anyone gets replaced. Often it confirms what's working, and the plan is written so your current team can carry it out.
Will you review my ads and SEO?
Yes, as part of the whole journey, along with your website, Google Business Profile, social media and video. Ads and SEO are where most businesses start looking, and they're rarely the whole story.
What access do you need?
Typically your Google Ads, Facebook ad account, Google Business Profile, website analytics, and whatever you use for calls and booking. We send the requests from our side and guide you through accepting them.
How long does it take?
It depends mostly on how quickly account access comes together, which varies a lot from business to business. We'll talk through timing on your kickoff call.
Do you need access to patient records?
No. The diagnostic looks at marketing and the patient journey, never clinical information or patient records.
Is implementation included?
No. The diagnostic is the evaluation and the plan. If you'd like help putting the plan in place afterwards, we can talk about it then. There's no obligation.
What if my marketing is already working?
Then you'll know exactly which parts are working, so nobody switches them off by accident.
What if the problem isn't advertising at all?
Then that's the most valuable thing you could learn before spending more on advertising.
